Justin Bartels - Trumpet

In May 2008, Justin Bartels was appointed to the Principal Trumpet position with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra in Denver, Colorado. He had previously held the same position with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Columbus Ohio for the 2007-2008 season. In 2009, Justin was appointed Principal Trumpet with the Central City Opera Orchestra a position he had previously held during the 2006 and 2007 summers. Over the past ten years Justin has held positions with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic (Second Trumpet 2001-2002 | Principal Trumpet 2002-2003), New World Symphony (Rotating Trumpet Section 2003-2006), Augusta Symphony (Principal Trumpet 2006-2007), and the South Carolina Philharmonic (Interim Principal Trumpet 2006-2007).

Justin has also performed with several orchestras around the country including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony, Alabama Symphony, Charleston Symphony and the Virginia Symphony. As an active Soloist and Clinician, he has given masterclasses at Rice University, The University of Colorado, The University of Denver, The University of Montevallo, Alabama State University and the North Carolina School of the Arts. As a Soloist Justin has been featured with the New World Symphony (December 2004) and will be performing the Shostakovich Piano Concerto with Pianist Lisa de la Salle, conductor Peter Oundjian and the Colorado Symphony (October 16th and 17th 2010).

In 2003, Justin recieved a bachelors degree in Music Performance from Indiana University. While at Indiana University, Justin was a student of Marie Speziale while also studying with Ed Cord and John Rommel. Prior to his time at Indiana, Justin attended the University of Cincinnati (1997-2000) and The University of Alabama. He has also studied significantly with Joe Ardovino, Michael B. Johnson and Alan Siebert.

Justin currently resides in Federal Heights, Colorado with his wife Myroslava, daughter Sophia and cat Bama. Justin is an avid sports fan, follower of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team and the Atlanta Braves. Some of his favorite hobbies are beer brewing, building personal computers, golf, web design, bowling and PC gaming.
