Biography
Justin Bartels is the principal trumpet with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra in Denver, Colorado. Justin has been a member of the orchestra since May of 2008. Prior to his tenure in Denver, Justin has held positions as principal trumpet with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Columbus, Ohio (2007-2008), Principal Trumpet in the Augusta Symphony (2006-2007), and was a member of the New World Symphony (2003-2006). Justin also holds the position of Principal Trumpet with the Central City Opera Orchestra during the summer months, a position he had held previously in 2006 and 2007.
Mr. Bartels has performed as guest principal trumpet with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, as well as performances with the Alabama Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Houston Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, New York Philharmonic and the Virginia Symphony. Justin is a 2003 graduate of Indiana University (B.M. Trumpet) where he was a student of Marie Speziale and worked extensively with John Rommel and Ed Cord. While at Indiana, Justin played principal trumpet with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic (Columbus, IN) as well as the Camerata Orchestra of Bloomington (Bloomington, IN). From 1996-2000, Justin also studied at the University of Alabama and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
Justin currently lives in Denver with his wife Myroslava, a violinist with the Colorado Symphony, daughter Sophia, and a cat named Bama. Originally from Birmingham, AL, Justin enjoys Atlanta Braves Baseball, Alabama Crimson Tide football, Skiing, Video games and Brewing Beer. |
